1/2 cup molasses, unsulphured 1/4 sugar 3 tablespoons butter or shortening 1 tablespoon milk preheat oven to 350 degrees |
2 cups flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon cloves 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 2-3 tablespoons water |

| Our Gingerbread Cookies recipe is an ideal project for little helpers. Perfect for decorating, many fragrant spices to measure and no loud mixers needed - just strong muscles! Too spicy for developing taste buds?Gingerbread cookies make terrific Christmas decorations. Prior to baking, make a hole in the top of the cookie and string a bright red ribbon through. | In a heavy sauce pan, heat molasses to a boil. Add sugar, butter or shortening and milk. Take off heat, allow to cool slightly. Combine dry ingredients, flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Mix well and combine with molasses mixture. Add the 2-3 tablespoons of water to get dough to come together with a spoon. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead together. Roll dough out to approximately 1/4 inch and cut out cookies with gingerbread men cookie cutters. Bake for 5-7 minutes. When cook enough to handle, decorate away! Makes approximately 19 4" gingerbread men cookies. | |||
